The Mountain View baseball team took a big step toward the No. 1 seed for the upcoming the district tournament, while Skyview has some work to do.

Colin Biggs and Tyler Milton combined on a five-hit shutout as the Thunder blanked the Storm 6-0 on Monday.

Nothing has been determined yet in the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League. But every win is big these days.

Mountain View leads the league by a half game over Camas, one game over Battle Ground and three games over Skyview.

Mountain View can finish Skyview’s chances at a league title with a win over the Storm on Wednesday. The Thunder then would have two games remaining, both against Camas. Battle Ground has one game against Heritage and two against Evergreen remaining.

Mountain View started Monday with a three-run first inning. A sacrifice fly by Austin Hamilton, a single by Biggs and a sacrifice by Spencer Warner brought in the runs.

In the second inning, a Christian Maddox ground out scored Daniel Kent for a 4-0 Mountain View lead, and then in the fourth inning, Max Samuelson singled in a run and the sixth run scored on a error.

Skyview stranded seven base runners, four in scoring position.

Stars of the day

Nolan Autrey, Woodland baseball, pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and drove in a run as the Beavers won at Hockinson 5-1.

Kevin Miser, Ridgefield baseball, went 2 for 4 with a double, home run and three RBI in a 9-3 win over Washougal.

Maddie Newton, Mountain View softball, got the Thunder offense rolling with a game-tying home run in the fifth inning of a 4-1 win over Heritage.

Abby Fischer and Nicole Christensen, Skyview softball: Each hit a home run and drove in two runs in a 9-2 win over Evergreen.

Alli Hancock, Camas softball, had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh as Camas beat Union 6-5.
