Approximately 100 costumed competitors will battle for the $500 first prize in the annual Sno-Kona Pond Skim Saturday at Mount Hood Meadows.

The competitors will attempt to skim across an ice-water pond next to the ski area’s base. The event includes music, costumes and a beach fashion show.

Competitors take a qualifying run and those who make it across advance to the finals, where they will be judged on costume, style-crowd response and if they make it across the pond again.

Registration is $30 and includes a beach towel and celebratory brew for those ages 21 and older.

The first runs will begin at 11 a.m. and the finals are expected to start around 2 p.m.. There is no charge for spectators.
