Spotlight on Youth

The following students from Clark County recently served as pages for one week for the Washington State Capitol in Olympia.

Jay Alexander, son of Susan Ward of Vancouver and John Alexander of Seattle, was sponsored by Sen. Annette Cleveland, D-Vancouver. Jay is a sophomore at Mountain View High School. Ozzie Gonzalez, son on Eric and Cori Gonzalez, was sponsored by Rep. Paul Harris, R-Vancouver. Ozzie is a student at Camas High School. Justin Lindsay and Jake Milanowski, students at Ridgefield High School were sponsored by Rep. Liz Pike, R-Camas. Justin is the son of Justin and Jennifer Lindsay and Jake is the son of Jim and Erica Milanowski.

2016 STATE HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIP

A group of students from Camas High School took 10th place statewide at the YMCA Mock Trial Competition last month in Olympia. In the three-day competition at the Thurston County Courthouse, student teams took the plaintiff and defense sides of a fictitious civil lawsuit trial in which a person was wrongfully convicted of a crime, and is suing for damages. Washington Supreme Court Justice Mary Yu presided over the championship trial.

2016 NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC STATE BEE

Two students from Camas schools placed in the top 10 at the 2016 National Geographic State Bee, April 1 at Pacific Lutheran University near Tacoma. Thomas Hull, an eighth-grader at Skyridge Middle School, tied for 6th place; and Jayanth Gorrepati, a fourth-grader at Illahee Elementary School, placed 10th.

HIGHLIGHTS PUBLICATION

Joleen Wilson, a fifth-grader at Fircrest Elementary School, submitted a drawing to Highlights that was selected for the January issue — Your Own Pages section. She is the daughter of Zak and Krista Wilson.
