A Clark County sheriff’s deputy is on paid leave after firing his weapon during a disturbance call Wednesday afternoon in Camas.

Deputies, along with officers from the Camas Police Department, responded about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to a report of threats and a disturbance with a weapon at 6610 N.E. 232nd Ave. in Camas, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

When law enforcement arrived, they were confronted by an adult man brandishing a firearm, the sheriff’s office said. A deputy fired one round from his service weapon and the adult man was disarmed and secured. The man was not hit by a bullet but began complaining of chest pain.

Fire personnel transported the man to an area hospital, the sheriff’s office said, where his condition is not known.

The agency would not release whether the shots were fired at the male or whether the man made threats or struggled with law enforcement.

The sheriff’s office said that the man involved in the incident was not arrested or charged with a crime.

The deputy has been placed on critical incident leave, a routine procedure. The incident is under investigation by the Vancouver Police Department’s Major Crime Unit.
