More ‘Major Crimes’; ‘Player,’ ‘Bridge’ canceled

You have questions. I have some answers.

What has happened to “Major Crimes?” There was a five-episode series, all about one murderer and it did not return. I consider this show to be the best on TV and it seems to be fading away.

As has been said here before, networks more commonly spread out their episodes from a season, with breaks along the way. The arc you saw wrapped up the drama’s fourth season. It will be back for a fifth beginning June 13.

I really enjoyed the NBC show “The Player.” Is there any chance of another season being produced?

No. The action drama starring Philip Winchester and Wesley Snipes was a failure. Not as dismal as some, perhaps, but bad enough. The writing was on the wall not long after it aired, when NBC cut the episode order. It had at first been set to make 13, which producers then hope will lead to an order for “back nine” for a complete season of 22. In “The Player’s” case, just a handful of episodes aired before NBC reduced that 13 to just nine — and backed off from the series in the process.

I waited for a new season of “The Bridge” and nothing happened. Diane Kruger and Demian Bichir were excellent. FX messed up!

You’ve been waiting for quite some time. FX decided not to continue the series in October 2014 after two seasons. As TVGuide.com pointed out, while reviews were good, there were changes in the production team and in the storyline over those two seasons. And the audience declined significantly in the second season.

Are they (whoever they are) ever going to make another Narnia movie?

Two years ago I noted that a deal had been made for a fourth movie based on C.S. Lewis’ books, and that it might arrive in 2016. I don’t think that timetable still applies, but there may yet be a movie.

A first draft of a script was reportedly completed in June 2015. In January, producer Mark Gordon told Collider that “we’re hoping to be able to make the movie very shortly. We’re very excited about it.”

The new movie, based on Lewis’ “The Silver Chair,” will kick off “a brand new franchise,” Gordon said.

Can you please tell me what happened to “Code Black,” one of my favorites? Is it returning?

The CBS drama starring Marcia Gay Harden concluded its 18-episode first season with the telecast “Blood Sport” on Feb. 24. At this writing, while CBS has picked up some shows for another run, “Code Black” has neither been canceled nor renewed. If we don’t hear sooner, we should know its fate in May, when networks announce their plans for next season.

Last year the History channel had a seven-part series on the Roosevelt families. I DVR’d it, watched the first episode, then had DVR troubles and lost all of it. Is this being shown again? If not, could I buy it on DVD?

I think you are remembering “The Roosevelts: An Intimate History,” Ken Burns’ seven-part production about Theodore, Franklin and Eleanor, which originally aired on PBS in 2014. (According to Burns’ production company, it has not aired on History.) You may want to check your local public-TV outlet for replays of “The Roosevelts.” It is also on DVD, Blu-ray, Netflix, iTunes and Amazon Prime.
