The Columbian expects the worst from the Port of Vancouver. Just look at the headline on an April 22 story: “Port stalls release of amended oil lease.” That’s a loaded word, “stall,” given there was nothing yet to release. Perhaps Tesoro-Savage experienced reluctance agreeing to the conditions imposed by Port of Vancouver commissioners on Vancouver Energy’s proposed amendment to the lease.
I expected increased due diligence on the part of the port. That’s what I got.
(Vancouver resident) Nancy Schultz expected the worst from Commissioner Brian Wolfe. That’s what she got. She claimed in her April 22 letter, “Wolfe in sheep’s clothing uncovered,” that Wolfe “yelled” at her when she requested another public hearing. I was standing close by. He responded calmly.
I expected Commissioner Wolfe to deliberate questions from all perspectives, bringing his own values to bear. That’s what I got.
I understand opponents of the oil terminal want closure. However, the longer this drags on, the more exposure the facts get. That’s good for Vancouver and the planet.
