Letter: U.S. has love affair with violence

I couldn’t help but notice that the Nation Briefs on Page A7 of the April 25 Columbian contained five short items, four of which were about gun deaths. Leaving to one side the endless arguments about gun legislation, it made me wonder what, if anything, was being done about America’s fascination with and propensity for violence. Our movies, our TV shows, our bookshelves and even our textbooks are filled with stories depicting violence as a solution to our problems and disagreements. Could this be a factor in our nation’s incidence of violent crime and mayhem?
