Port of Vancouver opts for national CEO search

VANCOUVER — The Port of Vancouver last week decided to launch a national search for its next CEO. The port’s three commissioners voted 2-1 on Tuesday to look broadly for the top administrator rather than only considering an internal promotion. Commissioner Jerry Oliver voted against the decision.

Former port executive Todd Coleman stepped down in May even as the port remains mired in controversy surrounding the proposed Vancouver Energy oil terminal. Port finance chief Julianna Marler has been serving as interim CEO.

The national search will start Oct. 1 — Commissioner Brian Wolfe wanted to delay the start of the search — which could bring a new leader early next year. Commissioners will need to decide whether they want a long-term replacement or a “transitional” executive.
