Wapato – One man is dead and an officer is recovering from injuries following a police shooting in Wapato.

Chief Rick Needham said officers were responding to a domestic violence call at 8:15 p.m. Sunday when one of the officers shot the man.

The Yakima Herald-Republic identified him as Mario Martinez Torres, 38. Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins said he suffered multiple gunshot wounds and an autopsy is scheduled for today.

One officer was treated for injuries at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Needham declined to say how or how seriously the officer was injured, but he said he planned to release more information later.
