Clark and Cowlitz county officials recovered an elderly woman’s body from the Lewis River this morning.

Someone called 911 around 11 o’clock to report a body in the river near the BNSF railroad bridge, about 2 miles west of Paradise Point State Park, Clark County Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Tim Dawdy said.

Clark County Fire & Rescue personnel responded with the district’s jet boat to assist Cowlitz County firefighters. Crews brought the body to a nearby boat ramp, and turned it over the Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office, Dawdy said.

The Cowlitz County coroner and sheriff’s offices are investigating. The coroner’s office was working that afternoon to notify the woman’s next of kin, according to the sheriff’s office, which added the woman’s cause and manner of death had not been determined.
