PORTLAND — A fallen tree halted traffic after it smashed a car and blocked U.S. 26 at milepost 37 — near Timber, of all places.

Witness Ashleigh Raleigh said that the driver of the car was a young pregnant woman, and the windshield and hood of her car were smashed by the tree.

Instead of waiting for emergency crews to arrive, Raleigh’s video shows a crowd of people getting out of their cars and helping move branches to the side of the road.

Banks Fire Department then removed the tree from the road, according to Sgt. Kyle Hove, spokesman for the Oregon State Police Department.

Kyle Hove said that the driver was taken to the hospital and the car was towed due to the damage.

Don Hamilton, spokesman for the state department of transportation, said that the highway was cleared by 4:50 p.m.
