Save the Date: Washougal celebrates the arts, while Vancouver celebrates beer

Washougal will be artistically colorful today as Washougal Arts and Culture Alliance presents the Washougal Art Festival, a juried art show and sale featuring more than 20 local artists from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today in the Reflection Plaza, 1703 Main St., Washougal. Mediums will range from recycled steel pieces to photography, oil paintings to books. Performing arts groups will take the stage from 2 to 4 p.m. The “Art Rocks” area will offer creative activities for children. A raffle and silent auction will also take place, including the painting on the event poster created by artist Liz Pike. www.washougalartfestival.org

See how much the local brewery scene has grown at the Vancouver Brewfest with a variety of beers to try from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday in Esther Short Park, Columbia and West Eighth streets, Vancouver. Attendees can also play “Bear Pong,” the oversize version of beer pong. There will also be food vendors, craft artisans and musical performances from local bands. Proceeds from the festival will benefit Northwest Battle Buddies, Second Chance Companions and the local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans. The Slo Poks Car Club presents its annual Uptown Village Show and Shine along East 18th Avenue and Main Street in Vancouver. The event is open to all hot rods, custom cars, bikes, rat rods and collector cars from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 20. The Slo Poks will be giving out hand-made trophies to winners. The Branch Christian Church and 50 local businesses have joined forces to host Family Fun Fest, a free community event to the neighborhood. The day will feature carnival games, health and safety exhibits, inflatables and more from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 20 at Fisher Basin Park, Southeast 192nd Avenue and Mill Plain Boulevard, Vancouver. The Hough Foundation will host its annual Sip and Stroll, a self-guided tour, as attendees can explore Uptown Village and downtown Vancouver from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 20 starting from the Burgerville Center for Responsible Community Leadership, 1602 Main St., Vancouver. There will be 30 participating locations, featuring wine, beer, cider and spirits to try, along with shopping specials, music and activities. Relay for Life of North Clark County will raise funds for the American Cancer Society through a 24-hour fundraising walk around the track by team members, with games and activities throughout the relay. The Vancouver Wine and Jazz Festival will feature internationally acclaimed and Grammy-winning jazz, blues and pop musicians plus local and regional bands. Along with 200 wines, there will be 35 fine artists, and 20 restaurants and exhibitors for visitors to explore. Headline acts include Tiempo Libre, blues legend Bettye LaVette, rising star and saxophonist Grace Kelly and jazz trumpeter Nicholas Payton. The festival runs 4 to 10 p.m. Aug. 26; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 27; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 28 in Esther Short Park, Columbia and West Eighth streets, Vancouver. Ridgefield Farm-to-Table Dinner will be a community dining experience that will showcase local farmers, wineries, taprooms and caterers, held rain or shine along Main Avenue in downtown Ridgefield. The menu will be a three-course dinner served family style, along with a glass of beer or wine and appetizers from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 27. Dining will be followed by dancing with music by The Druthers. Panda Burro Invitational Run is a 5K and 10K race, inspired by the nicknames of two running partners. A portion of the registration proceeds will benefit the Pongo Fund, which helps feed hungry pets in the local area. The race will include cupcake aid stations and breakfast burritos at the finish line. There will also be a free kids run, gunny sack races, pinatas and a raffle. Race day registration begins at 7 a.m., race starts at 8 a.m. Aug. 27 from Klineline Pond, Salmon Creek Park, 1482 N.E. 117th St., Vancouver.
