Letter: Flossing helps prevent cavities

By James Pritchett, Olympia

From the perspective of a retired dentist with decades of observing, I can assure you that patients who do not floss experience a higher rate of cavities on the surfaces of teeth that are facing each other. It was always sad to see a young child loaded with caries (cavities) in those areas. If a person does not wish to floss, how do they clean between the teeth?

If the recent “study” of flossing is accurate, then we should be able to omit brushing, also.
