SPOKANE (AP) — A woman shot dead with her brother Monday in Spokane Valley had just strapped her 7-year-old son into a car seat for the ride to school when a car pulled up behind hers and blocked the driveway, according to court documents.

Brenda Kenison’s estranged boyfriend emerged from the car and started arguing with her, said the documents cited in a story Thursday by The Spokesman-Review newspaper.

The ex-boyfriend, Gilberto Delgado, then chased her into the house where she was living with her brother after leaving Boise, Idaho, seeking a new life.

Delgado used a .22-caliber handgun to shoot Kenison dead and also shot her brother, Danny Kenison, to death before fleeing, the documents said.

He was arrested in Blackfoot, Idaho, on Tuesday and is jailed awaiting extradition to Washington.

Authorities have said that the child, unharmed, unbuckled himself from the car seat and went into the house — discovering the bodies and using his uncle’s phone to call 911. He also identified Delgado as the suspect, the documents said.

Delgado, 44, was described as a violent felon who was released from an Idaho prison in October, according to Idaho prison records.

He had Brenda Kenison’s name tattooed on his forearm but she broke up with him last spring when she learned about his criminal past and moved from Idaho to Washington.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the home within minutes of the shootings and coaxed the scared boy out.

Danny Kenison died from a gunshot wound to his abdomen, a medical examiner reported. His sister died from several gunshot wounds.

The boy has been reunited with his father, Lance Kolbet, and has returned home with him to Pocatello, Idaho.
