Vancouver police are investigating a dog stabbing Wednesday evening in the Lincoln neighborhood.

The stabbing occurred about 7 p.m. in the 3500 block of Harney Street during a dispute between a dog owner and another subject, said Vancouver police Sgt. Aaron Gibson.

Gibson said the dog, a medium sized dog named Hank, reacted when the dispute became physical and came to the aid of its owner, though he did not attack.

“The other subject had a knife and stabbed the dog a couple of times,” Gibson said.

Hank was taken to a local veterinary hospital with injuries Gibson described as significant.

The dog was undergoing surgery Wednesday evening. Gibson said it’s believed that Hank will survive.

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday night.

“At this point, investigation is still ongoing, and we do not know the whereabouts of the subject who had the knife,” Gibson said.
