CORVALLIS, Ore. — A Benton County sheriff’s deputy is under investigation after he allegedly hit a juvenile while responding to an incident in June.

The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports that the Oregon Department of Justice is reviewing the use-of-force investigation that was already conducted by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation stems from a June 17 incident at the Children’s Farm Home in which the deputy responded to a reported assault of a staff member. Benton County Sheriff Scott Jackson says some staff members reported that the deputy used excessive force when the teen tried to knee the deputy in the groin and he struck her in the face.

Jackson says the DOJ is reviewing the Linn County report to see if the incident is a criminal matter.
