Letter: Challenge candidates on light rail

By Larry Patella, VANCOUVER

With the presidential election taking up most of the news, we shouldn’t forget what those up for re-election failed to do while they were sitting in the cushioned seats of authority.

One thing is sure; they haven’t done anything to void the most outrageous C-Tran/TriMet contract that allows Portland’s financially failing light rail system to:

1. Invade Vancouver and Clark County and use our eminent domain laws to confiscate private property.

2. Build, with our dollars, the CRC with light rail.

3. Impose outrageous bridge tolls for Vancouver and Clark County taxpayers to pay.

4. Fine Vancouver and Clark County voters and taxpayers $5 million if we don’t allow ourselves to be dictated to.

I don’t intend to vote for any local politician running for re-election unless he or she comes forward about how they plan to void the C-Tran/TriMet contract.

I encourage all who want some say in how our tax dollars are being wasted on a project that we voted “no” to, a minimum of six times, to keep asking questions. If they want our vote we are at least entitled to some discussion.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
