The Vancouver man found lying in the middle of Mill Plain Boulevard near Interstate 205 early Friday died as a result of being struck by a vehicle, investigators said.

Officers last week were not sure if 37-year-old Fabian G. Rosales had died prior to being struck by a vehicle just before 4 a.m. Friday on the 10500 block of Mill Plain Boulevard, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

A motorist called 911 after running over what he described as a dark object lying in the roadway, police said. He pulled into a parking lot and realized he’d hit a body, police said. Rosales was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office said Monday that Rosales died of blunt force injuries, and his death was ruled an accident.

Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said the autopsy showed that Rosales did not appear to be in the standing position when the injuries occurred. She said investigators are waiting for lab results that will indicate if Rosales had any toxins in his system when he died.

The driver was cooperative with investigators, Kapp said. She said no citations or charges will be issued to the driver.
