PORTLAND — An Oregon man has been sentenced to more than six years in prison after pleading guilty to vehicular manslaughter and DUI.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports that 55-year-old Franklin Drobny says he is “filled with sorrow” after striking and killing a bicyclist in March. Drobny’s driver’s license has been suspended for life.

According to a probable cause affidavit, witnesses told police that Drobny hit 17-year-old Austin Hrynko in Portland. Drobny sat on the curb until an ambulance arrived and paramedics pronounced Hrynko dead. The affidavit says he was arrested and failed sobriety tests.

Drobny’s lawyer, Jonathan Thomas Sarre, says Drobny is an alcoholic and has been attending treatment programs in jail since the crash.
