RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Bail has been set at $5 million for a 21-year-old man arrested in the fatal shooting of another man on a Metro Transit bus in Renton this week.

Court papers filed Thursday say Faisal Adan had been chatting with a 27-year-old man on the bus Tuesday when he suddenly shot the other man, whom he didn’t know, repeatedly. And, investigators said, he told police afterward that he did it because he was afraid the man was going to threaten him.

The King County Sheriff’s Office said the victim died Thursday morning at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

According to a probable cause document written by Renton police, a witness on the bus reported that Adan and the victim had been speaking in a foreign language. The conversation seemed amicable, but the witness said Adan pulled a gun out of his sweatshirt and started shooting.

The gunman then pointed the gun at the driver and got off the bus. He was soon arrested by Renton police.

Adan waived a bail hearing Thursday and it was not immediately clear if he had obtained a lawyer.
