Letter: Allow marijuana cultivation

Legal cannabis is the fastest-growing industry in the U.S. With this popularity comes interest in personal cultivation of cannabis for household uses such as juicing, making into soaps, etc. The so-called Plain Smell Doctrine prevents people from personal cultivation of cannabis on their own properties. It is time for Washington to make personal cultivation legal for adults of 21 years or older.

This is an issue because of the growing interest in home uses of cannabis, such as juicing for health benefits. According to Dr. William Courtney, juicing cannabis is the healthiest way to consume this amazing plant. He claims that many of the same illnesses that are treated with cannabis can be prevented through the regular consumption of raw cannabis juice.

Bipartisan legislation — House Bill 2629 — has been introduced in Washington’s House of Representatives to legalize the cultivation of up to six cannabis plants for everyone 21 and older, while allowing them to possess up to 24 ounces harvested from said plants. Sign the House Bill 2629 petition and speak with 17th District legislators, Lynda Wilson, Vicki Kraft and Paul Harris, to voice concerns about this issue.
