Mark your calendar: Local Boy Scouts will be collecting new or used coats and recycling Christmas trees on Saturday, Jan. 7.

The annual event — led by the Boy Scouts of America of Columbia Gorge and Fort Vancouver Districts — starts at 9 a.m. Scouts will visit neighborhoods in Battle Ground, Camas, Vancouver and Washougal. People who want their trees picked up and recycled should remove the stand, lights and ornaments, and put it on the curb by 8 a.m. Scouts will accept donations for their efforts with a recommendation of $7 per tree.

At the same time, Scouts will collect coats to be donated to Friends of the Carpenter and those in need. People should leave coats on their porch clearly marked for donation. Contact David Cramblett for more information at 503-730-6201 or david@functionalchaos.net.
