Camas — Students at Pacific Crest Academy were participating in their annual food drive when the Student Council put out a challenge, pitting middle schoolers against elementary school students to see which group could collect more food. The elementary schoolers were up about 500 items to 150 after the first week, but that wasn’t a big enough lead for third-grader Katie Jackson. She and her father, Harlan Jackson, went to Chuck’s Produce in Vancouver and told Patrick Newman, floor manager, and Alice Stricker, marketing specialist, about the drive. The store then donated food to Katie, and she and her dad matched the donation. Altogether, they had 1,400-plus items collected. The food will go to Saint Vincent de Paul.
