Vancouver – C-Tran plans to celebrate the opening of The Vine, with a family-friendly event at 12:30 p.m. Jan. 7 at the Vancouver Mall Transit Center.

The event will open with about a half-hour of guest speakers, followed by a street fair-style event from 1 to 3 p.m. The public is invited to attend and ride along the corridor in one of the new 60-foot articulated Vine buses.

The Vine begins service Jan. 8 and runs between Vancouver Mall and downtown Vancouver, mainly along Fourth Plain Boulevard.

C-Tran staff and volunteers will be assigned to stops along The Vine corridor during the entire first week of operation to assist and enlighten passengers.

The Vine is the first bus rapid transit system of the Portland-Vancouver metro area. BRT includes several features not included in typical bus service, including: off-board fare payment, level boarding, on-board bike racks, traffic signal priority and greater passenger capacity.
