Jameel Morton hit five 3-pointers in the first half as the Fort Vancouver boys baketball team had to survive a nearly fantastic finish by Skyview to beat the Storm 52-50 in a non-league on Tuesday.

Skyview had the ball with seven seconds left and trailing 51-47.

“We basically had no chance of winning,” Skyview coach Matt Gruhler said. “The only chance we had was to get a 3-pointer and a foul. So I told Taylor Harbertson to try to get fouled. And he did, and made the 3-pointer. Unfortunately, he missed the free throw.”

After Fort hit one free throw, Skyview still had one more shot, but a half-court shot at the buzzer was just of the mark.

Morton hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter as the Trappers built a 30-9 lead in the second quarter.

“Two of those (3-pointers) were from 30 feet,” Skyview coach Matt Gruhler said. “We didn’t know he could shoot it like that.”

Cole Grossman had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Skyview, and Samaad Hector added 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Morten added five rebounds. James Husband Jr. had 15 points and Miracle Alford-Lewis had eight points, six rebounds and four steals.
