The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy Sunday morning as 37-year-old Paul Kolar.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy shot the man after responding to a call in the Ridgefield area.

The deputy was sent to 319 N.W. 289th St., at 7:50 a.m., for a report of a prowler. The deputy encountered and engaged with Kolar in the area, the sheriff’s office said, then shot him.

Kolar appeared to have been armed with a handgun, according to the sheriff’s office.

He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The medical examiner’s office determined the man died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Kolar’s town of residence was not reported.

The sheriff’s office said the deputy was unhurt.

The Regional Major Crimes Team is investigating the shooting. The deputy involved, whom the sheriff’s office hasn’t identified, has been placed on paid leave per office policy regarding shooting incidents.
