Letter: No cheers for Herrera Beutler

I am writing concerning the “Cheers and Jeers” editorial published on Dec. 17. Representative Jaime Herrera Beutler was given a “cheer” for her sponsorship of the Safe Medications for Moms and Babies Act.

I find this honor to be somewhat dubious. This act may improve the health of a certain portion of the population, and that is good. But Herrera Beutler has worked mightily to undo the Affordable Care Act. This act has improved the access to health care for millions of Americans.

Herrera Beutler has chosen to champion one narrow aspect of health-care legislation to get good press. But it is apparent that she is not interested in improving the health of Americans generally and their access to affordable care.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
