Letter: Support Camas school bond

By John P. Brooks, Camas
Published: February 1, 2016, 6:00am

I met my wife in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area in 1994. There, school bonds were passed to get high school football teams stadiums, uniforms, and, of all things, towel warmers for the players’ showers. We were vehemently against any school bonds that secured our tax dollars for such expenditures.

Fast forward to 2000, when we moved to Camas. The first school bond was proposed on the ballot and we had this “shell-shocked” perspective of “nope.” But then my wife and I volunteered at our kids’ schools. We met the teachers and became friends with many of them at Helen Baller Elementary and Camas High School. What we saw was a school district that made exceptionally great decisions on how to spend a dollar. We witnessed the high caliber of teachers there. Having two children, we personally enjoyed the talent that is within this great school district.

If we had one complaint it would be the high degree of boundary exceptions that Camas takes in, due to other districts not passing their bonds. Thus, our crowding puts unnecessary stress on each teacher who performs magnificently day after day.

We wish to urge all to pass this next bond. It is money that will be spent wisely and efficiently. They put our kids first in all ways.
