Letter: Republicans demonstrate hypocrisy

On the national stage recently, my former governor, Sarah Palin, overtly blamed President Obama for her son’s arrest on assault charges. That confuses me as the Republicans claim to have a stranglehold on the “personal responsibility” plank.

They desire to downsize government and get it off the backs of businesses, but the Jan. 23 story, “Letter challenges wastewater plan” devoted ink to Rep. Herrera Beutler’s use of semi-obscure EPA (over-reaching big government bureaucracy) regulations (job killers) to slow down or derail the Cowlitz casino project. More confusion.

Then we read about Herrera Beutler’s daughter and how well she’s doing. More applause on their success with the medical malady fate dealt them, but why does she vote against the Affordable Care Act, which might help others less fortunate to share similar outcomes? My head hurts.

Finally, Councilor Madore uses his position to pass “regulations” intended to hamstring future Clark County Council decision-making powers, then, when the new, still all Republican/Independent Council overrides him, he attempts to use obscure state regs to get his way. My head feels like exploding!

Then he resorts to shame, calling the other council members “liberals.” Wait! The dictionary defines “liberal” as “open-minded.” Maybe he meant it as a compliment.

Maybe I’m not confused, just appalled at the hypocrisy. Apparently “Republican values” are only rolled out when convenient.
