Letter: Remove race from decisions

I agree with Will Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Spike Lee that there is no diversity at the Oscars. A Jan. 22 story reported “Will Smith joins wife, Lee in skipping Oscars.”

I also did not notice any Irish Americans, Italian Americans, French Americans, Japanese Americans, Mexican Americans, etc., on the ballot for the nominees to the Academy Awards. All I saw, I assume, was Americans.

Maybe we should just nominate Americans and leave the race connotations out of it. It seems that is what a lot of races are doing.
