Southwest Washington’s real estate market continued to show strength in January, with pending sales for the month hitting the highest level in a decade and a rush of new listings giving relief to deal-hungry homebuyers.

A RMLS real estate listing service report said January’s 696 pending sales represented a 39 percent increase over the previous month and an 11 percent increase over January 2015. Last month’s pending sales were the highest since 2006, when 715 were recorded.

There were 724 new listings in January, a 68 percent increase over December, though slightly below January 2015. Last month’s listings helped stretch the inventory of homes for sale to a 2.6-month supply, up from just 1.9 months in December. Closed sales in January dropped 31 percent from December but were up 10 percent from January 2015.
