Save the Date: Bring a little romance to your weekend plans

Find a valentine and mosey on down to the Fort Vancouver Sweetheart Dance. Friends of Fort Vancouver will host swing dancing to big band sounds from 7 to 10 p.m. tonight. There will be live music by the Beacock Swing Band, along with light refreshments and a no-host bar. Period costumes are encouraged. It’s all at Pearson Air Museum, 1115 E. Fifth St., Vancouver. The Liberty Theatre, 315 N.E. Fourth Ave., Camas, will fill its screens with romance this weekend. An ordinary man becomes a stand in for the president of the United States in “Dave” (1993), rated PG-13, with screenings at 5:35 p.m. tonight, 3:30 p.m. Sunday and 2:45 p.m. Monday. “Kiss Me Kate” (1953), the Broadway musical inspired by “Taming of the Shrew” gets the 3-D treatment with a screening at 1 p.m. today. Or catch the Bolshoi Ballet performing “The Taming of the Shrew” on screen at 12:55 p.m. Sunday. And the film that made boomboxes romantic, “Say Anything” (1989), rated PG-13, will be shown at 5:30 p.m. Sunday and 3:20 p.m. Monday. Movie tickets are $4.50, $5.50 for 3-D films. A cast of 31 women will perform 42 roles in “The Women,” a satirical comedy featuring women talking about men. Set in the 1930s and 1940s, the story follows the lives and power struggles of Manhattan socialites and up-and-comers, as gossip, marriage, affairs and divorces fuel their interactions. Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. tonight, and at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18-19 and 24-26; and 2 p.m. Feb. 20 and 27 at Magenta Theater, 1108 Main St., Vancouver. The Washington State Horse Expo will bring together horse owners and equine fans from across the region with national experts and riders. There will also be performances and demonstrations during the Saturday Night Equine Extravaganza starting at 7 p.m. Feb. 20, along with cowdogs, mounted archers, mule demonstrations and the Extreme Cowboy Race. The last Lantern Tour: An Evening at the Fort will begin at 7 p.m. Feb. 20. Visitors can take a lantern-lit journey with National Park Service staff and volunteers through Fort Vancouver at night. Mark Smith and Karen Barrow of Century Aviation will speak at the Aviation Lecture Series: “Old Planes — A Labor of Love.” The pair specialize in the restoration of various historic aircraft for museums and private displays, from the famous Spruce Goose to Pearson Air Museum’s soon-to-arrive DH-4 Liberty.
