A Portland man admitted to driving 140 mph prior to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near La Center early Friday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Nathan B. Gillespie, 42, of Portland was driving a 2002 Nissan Maxima north on Interstate 5 at a high rate of speed when the vehicle struck a northbound 2015 Toyota Prius from behind, according to the Washington State Patrol. The two vehicles left the roadway and came to rest in the grassy median.

Both Gillespie and the driver of the Prius, James Anthony, 48, of Portland, were injured and taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. They were both listed in satisfactory condition.
