What is the difference between a cirrus cloud and a cirrocumulus cloud? Children can learn all about the clouds, the Columbia River and make 3-D snowflakes during Second Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. today. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Families can arrive early to explore the Vanport Flood of 1948 exhibit on display starting at 11 a.m. at the Water Resources Education Center, 4600 S.E. Columbia Way, Vancouver. The Unitarian Universalist Church of Vancouver invites community members to help create quilts for Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 18. The quilts will go to the local chapter of Project Linus, an organization that gives blanks to children in trauma. Visitors can meet local craft beverage makers during Drink This! Vancouver, a self-guided tour of participating business across uptown and downtown Vancouver along Main Street from 4 to 9 p.m. Jan. 23. Plan a trip across the river for the annual ChocolateFest, as hundreds of vendors providing sweet samples, along with cooking demonstrations, educational presentations from chocolatiers and wine pairings. Clark Public Utilities hosts Race for Warmth on Jan. 31, a race to benefit its Operation Warm Heart program, which helps limited income families with their electric bills. The event features a 10K run and 5K walk/run through downtown Vancouver and along the waterfront, along with a free kids race, starting from Clark Public Utilities, 1200 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver.
