Letter: Attempt to repeal ACA is shameful

On Jan. 6, the U.S. House of Representatives shamefully voted for the 63rd time to repeal the Affordable Care Act. The president vetoed it. As usual our Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, voted in lockstep with her party of the affluent. In doing so, she would deny coverage for almost 20 million people. Her solutions she proposes are poor at best.

The people served by the Affordable Care Act would definitely pay more for health insurance if they actually get covered, which chances of that are slim to none. We basically would go back to a system of either no coverage for low-wage workers or a system that they have no recourse but to buy “junk plans” available in other states with low premiums but very minimal coverage.

She also suggests the poor set up health care accounts. Where are low-wage workers getting the money for that when they can barely afford groceries? She suggests that people with medical pre-conditions be put into a separate insurance pool. Well fine, but those premiums would be expensive. She blames all health care ills on the Affordable Care Act. This is the Republican mentality that only people that make $100,000 a year or more are on their radar.

Our representative needs to think about all people in her district, not just the fortunate few.
