The visiting Panthers finished strong to maintain a share of first place in the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League.

Washougal outscored Woodlahd 18-11 in the final quarter, securting the win with rebounding and free throws down the stretch. The Panthers (14-3 overall) improved to 8-1 in league play to stay tied for first place with Mark Morris.

Beyonce Bea scored six of her 20 points in the fourth quarter for Washougal. Alyssa Blankenship finished with 17 points and hit 4 of 5 free throws in the final three minutes to extend the Panthers’ lead.

After weathering some early foul trouble, Washougal was able to play more assertively with the game on the line in the fourth quarter, according to Panthers coach Brian Oberg.

“We just really tightened up on defense those last couple of minutes,” Oberg said. He said Bea and RaeAnn Allen each took control of the boards down the strech, and that Allen had some key assists in the fourth quarter.

Another factor according to Oberg was the defensive work of Lindsey Thomas against Woodland’s Jessica Flanagan, who finished with five points.

Kayla Fredricks scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds for Woodland (8-8, 5-4). Audrey Adams had 12 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Beavers.
