Letter: Congress resists legislating guns

By John J. Monaco, Vancouver

The issue of gun violence is troubling.

What is more troubling is that an AR-15 can be altered to become fully automatic, just search the Internet. So even if this weapon does not fit the definition of assault rifle as Eric Larsen indicates in his June 24 letter “Rights stripped by proposed laws,” it can become one easily with alteration.

Why is it so many Americans would like to see something done to reduce gun violence, something other than more guns?

Why is it that so many in our Congress take campaign contributions from the National Rifle Association? Why is it so many of them are Republican?

Another example of what Congress is not doing for the improvement in the quality of life in America.
