Letter: Broadcast all public meetings

By Michael Piper, Vancouver

I find it appalling that Clark Public Utilities is a public agency that does not broadcast their pubic hearings on CVTV. And their board meetings are at 9 a.m., when most people need to be at work. I am personally ashamed (as part owner) at this. What do they have to hide or keep under the radar?

And furthermore, while they meet quotas for conservation from Bonneville Power Administration, they could do so much more. They have huge operating reserves, capital reserves, and a large surplus on top of that. This is supposed to be a consumer-owned utility, and while they provide good service, they could do so much more in conservation and renewables. I asked one of their senior executives one time why this was. He laughed and said “you know, Mike, it was revenues” — they want more revenues.

What’s up with you, CPU?
