Letter: Share thoughts on roundabouts

Alert, alert! Trucking companies, all drivers, and residents of Washougal. Washougal’s mayor, Sean Guard, has put into motion plans to build roundabouts on state Highway 14 at 15th Avenue/River Road and at 32nd Avenue.

A roundabout at 32nd Avenue would give trucks leaving the Port of Camas/Washougal an easier way to travel west on Highway 14 than the route currently in use. A better, safer alternative to a roundabout at 32nd Avenue has also been proposed. Truckers leaving the port westbound would use a westbound ramp starting at the existing 27th Avenue underpass to enter Highway 14. The current traffic on Highway 14 would see no additional impact by building this onramp.

A roundabout at Highway 14 and 15th Avenue/River Road serves no purpose whatsoever.

If you have opinions or questions about roundabouts on major state highways, the Washougal City Council meets at 7 p.m. every second and fourth Monday. Three-minute citizen comments are allowed shortly after the opening of the meeting and council members will listen to your comments with interest. Please make your opinions about roundabouts on major state highways known to the Washougal City Council this month.
