Benton Harbor, Mich. – With mourners from as far as Texas, a bailiff who was fatally shot at a courthouse has been laid to rest with full military honors in southwestern Michigan.

Ron Kienzle’s funeral Monday was attended by officers from across the country, a week after he and fellow bailiff Joe Zangaro were gunned down by a jail inmate who was trying to escape the Berrien County courthouse.

The 63-year-old Kienzle worked as a bailiff after retiring as a police sergeant. He was an Army veteran.
