KELSO — The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man whose body was found along the banks of the Toutle River.

The sheriff’s office received a call at about 9 p.m. Sunday from a person who had been riding a 4-wheeler in the area when he came upon the body of a deceased man.

The site was along the banks of the Toutle River, about 4 miles north of Castle rock. It’s fairly remote and not easily accessible.

Detectives and the coroner went to the site and did a preliminary examination. Officials say it appears the man had not been there very long.

They planned to continue the investigation on Monday. They did not immediately know the cause of death.
