Hudson’s Bay — The Vancouver Police Department Neighbors on Watch program is looking for its next group of volunteers and is accepting applications for the next training academy until Thursday.

Resident patrol volunteers help the police with crime prevention, and constitute a high-visibility, nonconfrontational, observe-and-report group. Volunteers act as an extra set of eyes and ears for the police, reporting suspicious or criminal behavior.

Trained volunteers patrol in pairs throughout Vancouver, including in neighborhoods, on trails, in parks, at special events and in other areas in need of attention. Patrols are done on foot and bike, and in vehicles.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, live in Vancouver, pass a background investigation and complete 40 hours of training before becoming a member of the program. For more information, visit www.tinyurl.com/m8j528k or contact Volunteer Coordinator Kelly Cheney at Kelly.Cheney@cityofvancouver.us or 360-487-7467.
