If African-American athletes are sitting out the national anthem to protest the treatment of African-Americans, then I suggest they take a more positive approach to the problem and donate some of their millions of dollars to the Dr. Martin Luther King Foundation, which could, with the money, address the problems of inner-city families, particularly the youngsters.

Given the millionaire football, baseball and basketball players, and millionaire African-American entertainers and politicians, they could raise a great deal of money and solve the problems about which they seem to harbor such passion. Just imagine what positive results could be achieved by standing up and facing problems rather than just sitting down and turning a blind eye to them.

Take close look at Trump

In reference to Ron Child’s Sept. 5 letter, “Trump is the better choice,” I would like to recommend reading investigative reporter David Cay Johnston’s book, “The Making of Trump.” Johnston has been chronicling “The Donald’s” antics for over 25 years. Very interesting!

Some supporters are deplorable

Hillary Clinton has taken a lot of heat for saying 50 percent of Donald Trump’s voters are in a “basket of deplorables” of racist, sexist, homophobic, Islamaphobic people that are attracted by his rhetoric.

The things that come out of this guy’s mouth are deplorable. In my mind, that figure is high but it is true for many of his ardent supporters. You see them at his rallies chanting “He’s a Muslim,” when Trump mentions President Obama. I personally know a Trump fanatic who uses the n-word constantly when referring to the president.

Many Trump supporters think the president is not a citizen and is a Muslim. Unfortunately these low-life people are out there and denying it is putting blinders on. Trump, with his rhetoric, has flamed the fire for these people to crawl out from the rocks they were living under. David Duke, the former Ku Klux Klan leader, loves Trump. They are not America.

Yes, it’s there. We all know it but we fail to say it. Hillary Clinton had the guts to put it out there. The vast majority of Trump supporters are good people that want change in government policies toward immigration, trade and so on. Too bad the others are fed on bigotry and have found a home.

Left with nobody to vote for

In her Sept. 8 opinion column, “It will be open season on animals if Trump is elected,” Kathleen Parker writes about Donald Trump’s family and their heinous, blood-thirsty, cold-hearted lifestyles.

I, like so many others, are rocking on who to vote for. Clinton or Trump? Clinton is definitely out of the picture. I don’t like Trump for obvious reasons, but after Parker’s mind-blowing column, I’m in the crowd of not voting at all. I started voting Democratic when JFK ran. I’m still a Democrat, but with no one to vote for.

Support Topper for Legislature

I support Alishia Topper in her race for the 49th Legislative District. While on the Vancouver City Council, Topper has proven her dedication to job creation. Her commitment to jobs does not stop there, as she is also a board member of Vancouver’s Downtown Association.

Anyone who has walked the streets of downtown in the last year can see what she and the association have accomplished. From fabulous new shops to great new restaurants, we see our city transforming before our eyes into an even greater place to live and — because of Topper’s tireless efforts — work. She understands careful planning, excellent execution, the power of collaboration, and visionary thinking. Her business background is outstanding.

Please join me in voting for Alishia Topper on Nov. 8.

Clinton criticism is warranted

The Aug. 23 letter “Many reasons to support Clinton” listed not one.

The author said that Hillary Clinton “has been the target of media such as Fox News and Rush Limbaugh for decades. The underlying source of ridicule and lies is unconscious hatred of women.” Ridiculous!

Many dozens of all kinds of media have criticized Clinton’s policies and more over the years. Are we to believe that they all did it because they hate women? Did the FBI investigate Clinton because they hate women?

There are many reasons why Clinton should be in jail and not running for president.
