Forest Service seeks comments on Bear Creek restoration plan

TROUT LAKE — Comments will be sought until Aug. 10 on a proposal for timber thinning, road restoration and road closures in the Bear Creek watershed of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

The Mount Adams Ranger District has completed a draft environmental analysis for the Bear Creek Restoration Thin project just north of Carson in Skamania County.

Proposed is tree thinning on 533 acres of young forest plantations, tree planting for species diversity and road restoration including replacement of undersized culverts, reconstruction of water bars and rehabilitation of road shoulders at 10 locations or road No. 68. Also proposed is decommissioning or closure of 1.8 miles of road No. 6830, 0.9 mile of road No. 6835 and 0.7 mile of road No. 6800-602.

The project is joint effort between the Forest Service and South Gifford Pinchot Collaborative.
