Letter: Fire commissioners aren’t paid

By Mike Lyons, VANCOUVER
Published: July 30, 2016, 6:00am

I am running for Clark Public Utilities commissioner, District 2. I have been informed of robo-calls that try to discredit me because I am currently a fire commissioner. They claim I’d be “double dipping,” if elected, and compared that to Don Benton.

Fire commissioners receive no base salary or benefits from the fire district in which they serve. I am not sure how this equates to double dipping and being compared to Benton.

The robo-caller doesn’t identify herself or any affiliation with a campaign. I have not and will not participate in negative campaign tactics. I have served the fire district for more than 15 years in this capacity and, if elected as CPU commissioner, would have one year left on my term.
