Detectives are investigating an apparent assault after an injured man turned up on the doorstep of a Woodland-area home.

Residents who live off of Etna Road east of Woodland near Cedar Creek recreation boat ramp called 911 at about 6:40 a.m. Thursday to report that an injured man had knocked on their door, Clark County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Fred Neiman said.

The man, described as in his 30s, claimed he was assaulted. He was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, Neiman said. The extent of his injuries and his current condition in the hospital were unknown.

The man, whose name was not released, did not appear to live in the area and detectives don’t yet know where the assault occurred, Neiman said. Detectives have not yet interviewed the man, as he is being treated for his injuries, he added.

“We had a tracking dog come up to see if it would lead us to some place where the assault might have taken place,” Neiman said. “That was unsuccessful.”

Due to the circumstances and severity of the apparent assault, detectives with the agency’s major crime unit have taken over the investigation, Neiman said.

No other details on the incident were released.
