Save the Date: Vancouver USA Marathon steps up

Cheer on the athletes as an expected 5,000 participants race through downtown Sunday for the Vancouver USA Marathon. All races start and end in Esther Short Park, and there will be road closures along the race route, with the marathon heading northwest to Frenchman’s Bar Park before looping back through downtown through the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site and Columbia River waterfront. The half-marathon stays in downtown and along the waterfront. The event begins at 7 a.m. for the full marathon, 9 a.m. for the half-marathon, with the course closing at 2 p.m. www.vancouverusamarathon.com

Salmon Creek Farmers’ Market opens its Tuesday Legacy market, offering produce from local farms, products from select artisans and small businesses, along with health activities and information. Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation’s BookFest ’16 Summer Super Sale will feature more than 20,000 books to browse through 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 23 through June 25. The Cedar Creek Grist Mill will be serving up fresh strawberries on whole wheat shortcake for Strawberry Shortcake Day from 1 to 4 p.m. June 25. Weird Beer on the River is a tasting event featuring 25 beer and cider breweries with the challenge to create and serve their weirdest brew from 4 to 10 p.m. July 8 and 2 to 10 p.m. July 9. There will be also food vendors, picnic tables and music at Marina Park, Port of Camas-Washougal, 24 S A St., Washougal. This event is a fundraiser for CDM Caregiving Services, a local nonprofit agency serving the elderly and persons of all ages with disabilities in Clark County. Twilight Half Marathon is a race that takes place in the evening, with a half-marathon, 10K and 5K routes to choose from, all starting from the Vancouver Lake Regional Park, 6801 N.W. Lower River Road, Vancouver. The course runs by Vancouver Lake and the Columbia River, featuring food, beer and live music at the finish line from 4 to 10:30 p.m. July 9. The annual Camas Car Show features hundreds of classic, custom cars, hot rods and trucks along the streets of downtown Camas. There will be live music, performances, food and a raffle from 4 to 8:30 p.m. July 9. Awards will be given to Best in Show, Sponsors’ Picks and People’s Choice. Car registration begins at 1 p.m. with a $15 entry fee. Guests who bring two cans of food will receive a free raffle ticket.
