Firefighters rescued two people who overturned a canoe in Lacamas Lake late Monday night.

Someone called 911 at about 9:30 p.m. after hearing two people in the water yelling for help, according to the Camas-Washougal Fire Department

Firefighters found an overturned canoe about 100 yards off the east boat ramp of Lacamas Lake and a man and woman without flotation devices holding on to the canoe.

First responders did not have immediate access to a boat, so firefighters Victor Compher and Nick Ober volunteered to rescue the people in the water, according to the fire agency.

Compher and Ober put on flotation devices and, taking two extra with them, swam to the man and woman.

The man and woman were brought to an ambulance to warm up. They were exhausted and cold but not injured, and refused further treatment, the fire agency reported.

The agency warned citizens to exercise caution during water activities, and to always use a personal flotation device while on the water.
