Letter: Longer buses may cause congestion

About two months ago, I was on Andresen Road and saw one of the new accordion buses (60-foot-long articulated buses) making a right turn from Andresen onto Northeast Vancouver Mall Drive. The driver had to stop the bus — I think because he couldn’t get around the corner. I’m not sure, as I couldn’t see what he stopped for, but the cars in the left-turn lane had to move over so he could get around that corner. I’m wondering — if this bus has a hard time getting around that corner, what are they going to do when they are driving them around the downtown Vancouver area?

And by the way, I haven’t seen that bus on any street since. Perhaps it was a test drive. Could it be that they don’t want people to see the problems they will have when they start running these buses in the city center?

Also, with ridership down, as reported in The Columbian, how long is it going to take to pay for all that construction for the new Fourth Plain Bus Rapid Transit System, The Vine, and the buses?
