The Liberty Belles quilting group delivered 112 quilts to the Veterans Administration Hospital in May, bringing the group’s total up to 1,000 quilts delivered since they formed. The group branched off from the Clark County Quilters in April 2006 when six women decided to make quilts for hospitalized veterans in Vancouver. The group now has 21 members, who deliver quilts twice a year: in May for Memorial Day and in November for Veterans Day. The group makes three types of quilts for veterans. They make lap quilts and wheelchair quilts, which are made from any pattern and color. They also make honor quilts, which are always red, white and blue. After a veteran dies, the honor quilt is placed on his or her bed for 24 hours and then given to the family.
